Strasburg set to throw bullpen session on Tuesday

Stephen Strasburg landed on the disabled list yesterday with a strained lat muscle, but he's already making strides in his recovery. The Nationals ace played catch today and has a simulated game on the docket for next week. Manager Davey Johnson said that Strasburg is scheduled to throw a sim game this upcoming Tuesday, the Nats' first day in Colorado. This comes after Strasburg did a good bit of throwing off flat ground earlier today. "He went out early and he was throwing," Johnson said. "He threw a lot before (pitching coach Steve McCatty) got there. He was feeling real frisky, and Cat had to cut him short. But he's champing at the bit to get back on the rubber." Assuming Strasburg doesn't feel any discomfort tomorrow or in the next handful of days, that time on the rubber could come Tuesday. Strasburg is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 16, so if he does indeed throw a simulated game on the 11th and all goes well, he could return to the Nats' rotation on normal rest on June 16 against the Indians. Strasburg left his last start - last Friday in Atlanta - after just two innings because he felt discomfort in his side. The right-hander is 3-5 with a 2.54 ERA in 12 games this season.
