Taking a look at tonight's matchup

PHILADELPHIA - The Orioles haven't posted their lineup yet, but you can be certain that Manny Machado will lead off again tonight in the series opener against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

(That's "Bank," not "Bankrupt".)

According to Elias, Machado last night became only the third player in the last 50 years to lead off the first and second innings with home runs, joining the Tigers' Chad Curtis on May 28, 1995 against the White Sox and the Giants' Stan Javier on April 11, 1999 against the Padres.

I'd expect Chris Parmelee to remain in the lineup after homering twice last night among his four hits in his Orioles debut. He also looked good in right field. And manager Buck Showalter will need to strap Adam Jones to the bench to keep him out of center field.

David Lough is 7-for-11 with three doubles lifetime against Phillies starter Kevin Correia. He's got to be in the lineup.

J.J. Hardy is 5-for-14 with a double against Correia, Chris Davis is 2-for-6 with a double and home run, Delmon Young is 3-for-9 and Steve Pearce is 3-for-10.

Zach Britton is 2-for-3. Someone get this guy a bat.

The Phillies signed Correia on June 8 after the Mariners released him in March, and the Giants let him become a free agent on May 30. He tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the Pirates in his debut.

Correia is 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA in three career starts against the Orioles. He's 0-2 with a 14.00 ERA and a 2.667 WHIP in six games (two starts) at Citizens Bank Park, but I'm sure the Phillies researched it.

Ubaldo Jimenez will hit against Correia. He's 0-for-5 with a walk.

Jimenez has worked only five innings in each of his last two starts, but he's 1-0 with a no-decision after allowing four runs and 12 hits, with eight walks and 11 strikeouts. He's 0-2 with an 11.25 ERA in three career starts against the Phillies, all of them on the road.

Ryan Howard is 6-for-15 with a double, a triple, a home run and six RBIs against Jimenez. Chase Utley is 4-for-11. Jeff Francoeur is only 6-for-30, but it includes a double and two home runs.

No word on whether he's available out of the bullpen after working two innings last night in a 19-3 loss.

"It's not that easy, but it was fun - getting a punchout, doing some PFP, breaking bat, giving up a homer, hitting a guy, walking a guy. I kind of got everything a pitcher experiences over a year in two innings," Francoeur said.

Manager Ryne Sandberg was almost at a loss for words after his team's 18th loss in 21 games.

"It was ugly," he said. "I almost don't know what to say."

That pretty much sums it up.
