Not the beginning right-hander Taylor Jordan was looking for in his first big league start of the season. Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes drew a four-pitch leadoff walk. Third baseman Josh Donaldson, the reigning American League Player of the Week, followed with a line drive pounded over Denard Span's head for a double.
Reyes crossed the plate when right fielder Jose Bautista singled. Another base hit from left fielder Chris Colabello brought Donaldson home to increase his major league-leading runs scored total to 45. Both Bautista and Colabello eventually scored as well on a groundout from first baseman Justin Smoak and a single from center fielder Kevin Pillar.
Jordan threw 32 pitches in the first, surrendering four runs on four hits with a walk.
Update: The Blue Jays tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI single from Reyes.
Last night's hero, Kevin Pillar, is 2-for-2 tonight and 5-for-6 with two homers and five RBIs in the series. He entered the three-game set batting .223.
Update II: Smoak doubled to start the sixth and scored shortly after on second baseman Ryan Goins' two-bagger. A couple batters later, Reyes singled home Goins for the final run against Jordan.
Jordan lasted six innings, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Bryce Harper is 2-for-3 with a double tonight.
Update III: Bautista banged a solo homer off Nationals right-hander Taylor Hill in the ninth.
Update IV: The Blue Jays beat the Nationals 8-0.
