The longball again: Orioles use three homers to beat Reds, 7-5

He hit a walk-off homer in the 12th inning on Friday night. Today's homer came much earlier but was still pretty important. Derrek Lee's three-run shot gave the Orioles a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning today and they went on to beat Cincinnati 7-5 to win the series, two victories to one. Lee entered this game 6-for-8 in his career versus Reds starter Homer Bailey and is now 7-for-11. It was his sixth homer on the year. One out after Lee's 400-foot blast to left, Mark Reynolds crushed a Bailey pitch 443-feet to left for a solo shot and 5-0 lead. It was his team leading 14th, coming on the same day he made two more errors. Luke Scott added a solo shot off a Aroldis Chapman 94 mph heater in the seventh to give the Orioles a 7-4 lead. The Orioles hit three homers on the day and nine in the series to the Reds seven. The Orioles have hit 27 homers over the last 17 games with nine multi-homer games in that stretch. The Orioles staked Jeremy Guthrie to a 5-0 lead but Cincinnati rallied within a run by scoring one in the fifth and three in the top of the sixth. Orioles' pitchers issued six walks in those two innings, two with the bases loaded, to fuel the Reds rally. Orioles' pitchers issued eight walks on the day, but the Reds went 1-for-11 batting with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 runners. Guthrie gave up six hits and four runs over 5 2/3 but did get the win, his third and first since May 21. He is now 3-9 with an ERA of 3.93 over 16 starts. Today's attendance was 27,809 and the three-date series total was 112,167 for the Reds first trip to Baltimore since the 1970 World Series. After an off day Monday, the Orioles (35-40) host St. Louis for three games beginning on Tuesday night.
