VIERA, Fla. - Another day, another appearance by a Nationals lineup filled with regulars for today's 1:05 p.m. game against the Detroit Tigers at Space Coast Stadium. The Tigers didn't skimp on star power either, bringing their marquee names for the 90-minute drive from Lakeland. Some good news and some bad news from the Nationals clubhouse this morning. The good news is that left-hander Gio Gonzalez is back from a few days off after the World Baseball Classic and pitched this morning in a minor league game that began at 10 a.m. "Gotta try to dodge the bullets out there," Gonzalez said. "Those guys are going to be swinging, I know that. It's about working on stuff. It gives you a heads up because you know guys are going to be aggressive. You know not to be too much in the zone. Hopefully, my wildness can keep them off balance. But this is touch and feel for me, to get me to work on some stuff." The bad news is that right-hander Christian Garcia has been diagnosed with a sore flexor tendon in his right forearm and been told by hand specialist Dr. Ken Means of the Curtis National Hand Center at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore to rest for two more weeks. The Washington Post first reported the Garcia news. Garcia had hoped to start playing catch today, but instead will wait another fortnight and hope the problem corrects itself. He will likely begin the season on the 15-day disabled list, ruining the Nationals' plans to stretch him out as a starting pitcher. "I don't want to go out there, push it, and have a setback and have to start all over again," Garcia said. "I'd lose way too much time." Garcia hasn't been given a timetable for a return after his two-week break. He also has no preference as to whether he's used as a starter or a reliever. "Whatever helps me get back to the big leagues," he said.
