Tillman going for a first tonight (Andino going on DL)

Chris Tillman has made 37 starts in the majors, but he has never won consecutive decisions. He's got a shot at it tonight at Target Field. Tillman won his first start with the Orioles this season, allowing two unearned runs in a career-high 8 1/3 innings on July 4 in Seattle. The Orioles optioned him to Double-A Bowie so he could pitch again during the All-Star break, and recalled him earlier today. Tillman threw 125 pitches in Seattle. According to the Orioles' PR staff, that's the highest total by a Baltimore starter since Erik Bedard threw 126 pitches on May 4, 2005 against the Blue Jays. The Orioles are averaging 2.9 runs in their last 25 games and have been held to two runs or fewer in 14 of those games. They've also been held to single digits in hits in 21 of the last 25 games and have recorded three extra-base hits or fewer in 23 of them. The Orioles are 3-for-31 (.097) with runners in scoring position in the last five games. They're 25-for-149 (.168) in the last 25 games since going 8-for-17 against the Pirates on June 14. More offensive stats: The Orioles have been shut out seven times in the last 37 games after not being shut out in their first 51 games. They're due to break out in a big way. The Orioles are 13-9 against left-handed starters, and they're getting one tonight in Minnesota's Scott Diamond. Diamond is 4-1 with a 2.01 ERA in six home starts this season. The only Oriole who's faced him is Jim Thome, who's 1-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two walks. But Thome isn't in tonight's lineup. Tomorrow's starter for the Orioles, left-hander Zach Britton, is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA in two career starts against the Twins. He's allowed four earned runs in 11 innings. Britton won his only start at Target Field on August 22, 2011, allowing one run and six hits in five innings. He also walked four batters. Andino update: The Orioles can't get a break when it comes to injuries. Manager Buck Showalter told reporters in Minnesota that Robert Andino has been diagnosed with a strained left shoulder and is expected to miss three to four weeks. Andino will be placed on the disabled list, which clears a roster spot for Britton. He was batting .230/.292/.325 with nine doubles, one triple, five homers and 21 RBIs in 79 games and had reclaimed the starting job after Brian Roberts went on the disabled list with a hip injury. Steve Tolleson is starting at second base tonight, and Ryan Flaherty also can play the position. Before anyone else asks, I doubt that the Orioles would promote Jonathan Schoop from Double-A Bowie.
