CLEARWATER, Fla. - It's pouring here at Bright House Field at this hour and it looks unlikely that the Orioles and Phillies will get this game in. There has been no announcements on anything yet, but the tarp has been on the field all morning and the lights have been on.
We heard the O's team bus left at 10 a.m. from Sarasota so the players are on their way.
The Orioles are scheduled to play two games today with another O's squad hosting the Twins tonight at 7:05 in Sarasota.
If somehow they can get this game in, Brian Matusz and Kevin Gausman are scheduled to pitch. Matusz would be making his fourth appearance and second start. Over six innings, he has allowed four hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts. Gausman has pitched in three spring games. Over seven innings he has allowed four hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.
After his three-hit game in Dunedin yesterday, Baltimorean Steve Clevenger is batting fifth and catching in today's lineup. Clevenger is now batting .545 with 12 hits in 22 at-bats, including two doubles, one homer and six RBIs.
Alexi Casilla is scheduled to start, bat second and play shortstop. He has played in just three games and is 0-for-5. A hamstring injury kept him out of games until March 11 and in recent days he's been out with swelling in his left knee.
Reporters should get to talk with Buck Showalter in the next hour, so I'll pass along any notes and quotes from that later.
Update: Today's game has been rained out. The Orioles will now bus back to Sarasota where they hope to get in tonight's game there against the Twins. The game was called just a few minutes before the scheduled 1:05 p.m. first pitch and it will not be made up.
