Weekly Wrap: Almost to Viera

Heard there was a big sporting event this past week? I'm kidding - of course, I watched the Super Bowl on Sunday, and as many have said, I found it really hard to get into. I'm sure I'd be thrilled if I were a Seahawks fan. However, at the end of the game, only one thing had me really excited, and that's that baseball is right around the corner. In less than a week, Nats spring training will be under way, with pitchers and catchers reporting Feb. 13. Recently picked up by the Nationals, veteran catcher Koyie Hill will make the trip to Viera, Fla. He'll join an already crowded party, as he becomes the seventh catcher invited by the Nationals to spring training. This spring will answer a lot of questions that the Nats have about what is, on paper, a stacked roster. They will get an in-depth look at Sammy Solis, a pitching prospect with a very high ceiling. Nats-Instagram-Contest.jpgThey'll also get closer looks at new pitcher Doug Fister, who agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Nats this week, and Danny Espinosa, who is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season. While we count down, check out some other headlines that you may have missed this week. Baseball. Is. Almost. Here. * Plenty of new faces competing for bench roles in 2014 * Span more comfortable, confident entering his second spring with Nats * Nationals' philosophy regarding Tommy John surgery recovery appears to be successful strategy * A closer look at the Nats' top prospect, Lucas Giolito * Developer pulls out of plan to rehab Fort Myers stadium for Nats spring training * Counting down the days until opening day
