Wilson vs. Paxton tonight in Seattle

It didn't work with Chris Tillman or Kevin Gausman. Two failed chances to beat the Mariners in a city wedged between two California teams on a nutty road trip.

Can Tyler Wilson be the stopper and end a two-game skid?

Can the offense revert to its double-digit form - three straight games before the Orioles arrived in Seattle, where they've scored five runs in two losses?

Wilson has allowed eight runs and 19 hits over 11 innings in two starts since shutting out the Red Sox over eight innings in a June 16 game at Fenway Park. However, he's 2-0 with two no-decisions in his last four outings.

Wilson gave up five runs and six hits over six innings in a 7-2 loss to the Mariners on May 19. He's faced them twice in his brief major league career, including a relief, appearance, and has surrendered five runs and eight hits over seven innings at Camden Yards.

The current Mariners are 6-for-19 against Wilson. Seth Smith, who's homered the last two nights, is 2-for-4. Adam Lind is 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Wilson is 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in nine home games and 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA in six road games.

The Orioles are facing another left-hander in James Paxton, which probably keeps Pedro Alvarez on the bench. He's 1-3 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.673 WHIP in six starts, all in June, over 34 2/3 innings.

Paxton is averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings. He's 0-1 with a 3.12 ERA in three home starts and 1-2 with a 5.19 ERA in three road starts.

Right-handers are batting .316 against him and left-handers are batting .333.

In his only career start against the Orioles, Paxton allowed two runs and four hits and walked three batters in 4 1/3 innings on Aug. 2, 2014. Manny Machado is 2-for-2 with a double and Caleb Joseph is 1-for-2 with a home run.

In case you missed it, former Oriole Bud Norris made his Dodgers debut last night and tossed six scoreless innings. He's on turn to face the Orioles on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Norris threw seven scoreless innings in his previous start for the Braves. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Norris is the first pitcher to produce scoreless starts for two different teams in back-to-back games within one season since Chappie McFarland did that for the Cardinals (May 31) and Pirates (June 13) in 1906.
