With roster move coming, Albers puts up zeroes

The Orioles will need to remove a player from the 25-man active roster to activate Brad Bergesen to pitch here on Saturday. A few days ago, it looked like Matt Albers could be the player going. But now he seems to be making a case to stick around. He pitched a 1-2-3, 10th inning tonight vs. Boston and got the win, throwing 11 pitches, seven for strikes. He is now 1-3. Albers said the pending roster move has not been something he can think about. "You know that's one thing I wasn't worried about. I didn't have that in my mind at all. You can't even let yourself think about that kind of stuff. "To say I have no idea, I know it's there, but to try and pitch well or make a case, I just have to try and go back to doing the things that made me successful and work ahead in the count." The Orioles did not make a roster move after the game and no players were called into the manager's office and told anything about a move. That will be left for Saturday. Meanwhile, Albers has pitched three days in a row, throwing 3 1/3 shutout innings of one-hit ball, lowering his ERA from 9.35 to 6.75. "I think just getting ahead in the count and using my breaking ball more (has been the difference). I had been throwing a lot of fastballs and if you are going to get beat, get beat with your best pitch. But at the same time, I had been working 2-0 and 3-1 and throwing all heaters. You can put yourself in a tough spot. I needed to mix in more breaking balls." Albers was asked if he has to prove to his manager that he can now be used in tough, late-game situations once again. "You try not to pitch for that. You want your manager to have confidence in you. But I kind of know I can pitch all over at different points in the game. I'm ready to go in at any time. "But it's nice to get a win. That's the best feeling of all. Hopefully we keep that going."
