Hey, O's fans. Welcome to the latest edition of Yard Work. On this week's episode...
Following their first road trip of the season, the Orioles returned home for a quick six-game homestand against American League East foes Boston and Tampa Bay.
Of course, despite the fact the Birds took two out of three vs. the Red Sox, the biggest news seemed to be last Friday's incident between Manny Machado and Dustin Pedroia, not to be outdone by Sunday's drama between Machado and Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes.
It's been a few days since the incidents, and naturally the Orioles have moved on to other things. But was Machado in the wrong? Was his slide into second base a dirty play or simply an unfortunate result? Steve Melewski and Brian Eller will review and talk about what lies ahead for both clubs.
The starting rotation, meanwhile, continues to enjoy a successful April, with the Birds notching four straight quality starts last Wednesday-Saturday. Ubaldo Jimenez showed a glimpse of promise while Dylan Bundy kept his momentum going. After his win against Boston, Bundy now sits at 3-1 with a 1.37 ERA.
And how about the success of Wade Miley? Despite a penchant for issuing walks, Miley has kept his ERA to just over two, second-best on the club so far. It's still early, but what would a successful campaign from Miley mean to the Birds' chances in the AL East? Steve and Brian will discuss.
