Third base prospect Josh Bell has been held out of Triple-A Norfolk's lineup for the second straight game while he's dealing with neck spasms.
Bell might be available to play later today, but the Tides are being careful with him.
Just thought you'd want to know...
The Orioles fell behind, 2-0, in the second inning when Victor Martinez followed Kevin Youkilis' leadoff walk with a home run.
End of game?
Not so fast.
The Orioles managed to score twice in the bottom half of the inning to...
Don't think I've written every draft story from my notebook yet. There is even more on the way.
Later today or tonight, I'll post more thoughts on what the O's might do with the third overall pick in round one on Monday night.
Check out my blog and MASNSports.com during the day Monday for updates and special coverage.
Monday at 1 p.m. I'll host a special live video chat with the Orioles Adam Jones. We'll talk with Adam about many aspects of his game and his career and you will be...
The Nationals have scheduled Ross Detwiler for a rehabilitation start for Potomac Wednesday night against the Frederick Keys at Pfitzner Stadium.
Detwiler, who has been recovering from a hip injury, is schedule to make one start in Potomac Wednesday and then on to Harrisburg.
It has not been decided how many starts he will get with the Senators.
Manager Jim Riggleman is pleased with Detwiler's progress. "It is encouraging. I know he had a good session down there. We have been...
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo met with the media before Sunday's game against the Reds and did not confirm the team will select Bryce Harper with the number one overall selection in Monday's First-Year Player Draft. But it was pretty obvious they have been confident in their selection for quite some time and there is little suspense in who they will draft 1.1.
"We have made our decision. Tomorrow is a huge day for us. This is a big dray for the franchise. It is a big day for me. ...
With continued speculation that Jake Arrieta could be Baltimore bound at some point soon, I went to the guy today that has been his manager at Triple-A Norfolk the last two years.
That is Gary Allenson, now the O's interim third-base coach.
He admits that Arrieta can be confident, even bordering on cocky at times, but says that is a good thing and that Arrieta has simply been among the best pitchers in the International League this year.
"That's fine by me. Being cocky and knowing that...
Interim manager Juan Samuel said everything pitching-wise should "stay the same" if Jeremy Guthrie doesn't need extra time to recover.
We're still trying to determine if and when Jake Arrieta will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles are open to using Arrieta in the rotation or the bullpen, which adds to the speculation. Maybe he replaces Brad Bergesen in the rotation. Maybe he works in relief for a while and moves into a starter's role after the non-waiver...
The Orioles haven't posted their lineup, but you'll find Miguel Tejada serving as the designated hitter today to provide a little rest. Scott Moore is starting at third base.
Corey Patterson is dealing with some leg soreness that isn't considered serious. He probably could pinch-hit if needed. Luke Scott is starting in left field and Julio Lugo will lead off.
Also, Craig Tatum is catching today. Not only is Matt Wieters scuffling at the plate - he broke an 0-for-20 streak with a double...
The Orioles have been outscored 19-2 in Juan Samuel's two games as interim manager.
The problems run pretty deep here.
Samuel keeps pointing out that guys are running out ground balls and playing with some energy. That'll have to suffice until the offense busts out and the bullpen tightens up.
Left-hander Brian Matusz takes the mound today. Maybe someone should tackle him as he gets out of his car, leave him with the same "general soreness" that bothered Jeremy Guthrie yesterday.
If you...
Going the wrong way: That's ten straight losses for the Orioles. They are now just 3-17 over their last 20 games. They are 10-32 over the last 42 games vs. Boston.
Jeremy Guthrie said: "I had a good fastball and was able to locate it well. My slider was not that good tonight and I got away with a few mistakes.
"I'm always trying to put up zeroes, it doesn't matter who the other pitcher is. That doesn't factor in. That is always a tough lineup to face, they really work the...
O's manager Juan Samuel said the club was "keeping its options open" and that was why Jake Arrieta did not start, but came on in relief in tonight's Triple-A Norfolk vs. Buffalo game.
But it's also possible that Arrieta's innings were limited over concern for Jeremy Guthrie, who made his 12th start of the season tonight.
Don't get alarmed, I don't think we've got another injury here, but Guthrie did admit after the game that he's felt some "general soreness" lately, although he...
