Jiménez returning to rotation (and other notes)

Ubaldo Jiménez has replaced Alec Asher as Sunday's starter against the Cardinals at Camden Yards.

Jimenez-Delivers-Gray-Sidebar.jpgThe move is being made primarily because the Orioles need Asher in the bullpen. He served in a variety of roles before joining the rotation and the unit needs to be stabilized.

Jiménez requires extra time to warm up and requires more rest between outings than Asher.

Reliever Jimmy Yacabonis was optioned last night to Triple-A Norfolk and Mike Wright probably is headed to the disabled list.

The Orioles are examining the results of Wright's MRI to confirm that he has tendinitis in his right shoulder. They're also discussing whether he needs a cortisone injection.

Left-hander Vidal Nuño and Gabriel Ynoa joined the team and both will be added to the bullpen if Wright lands on the DL.

Closer Zach Britton will pitch the first inning of Monday's game at short-season Single-A Aberdeen, make two appearances at Single-A Delmarva and report to Double-A Bowie.

Manager Buck Showalter isn't revealing Britton's targeted return date, but he said it won't be July 1.

Reliever Darren O'Day's shoulder felt good yesterday after he threw on flat ground, but he won't be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.

Infielder Ryan Flaherty is throwing and hitting off a tee down in Sarasota.
