Your daily injury updates from the Nationals clubhouse, with several recovering players making progress and others still in a holding pattern as the season's first half nears its conclusion ...
* Jayson Werth participated in some portions of pregame workouts today with his teammates, the first time the veteran outfielder has done that since going on the disabled list more than three weeks ago.
Werth, out since June 4 with a bone bruise in his left foot, stretched with teammates prior to batting practice this afternoon. He also played catch with Bryce Harper, both encouraging steps in his rehab process.
The 38-year-old didn't take batting practice on the field, but he has recently begun taking some light swings, careful not to put too much weight on his injured foot.
* Koda Glover has not yet begun throwing since landing on the DL with lower back stiffness on June 11, according to manager Dusty Baker. The reliever's rehab from what appeared to be a minor ailment has progressed slowly, and at this point he might be running out of time to make it back before the All-Star break.
For what it's worth, the Nationals' record this season with Glover healthy and on the active roster is 30-17. Their record during Glover's two DL stints (he also missed two weeks earlier with a left hip impingement) is a pedestrian 15-14.
* Shawn Kelley, in more encouraging news, did start throwing Monday, according to Baker. That was the first time the veteran reliever has done that since he went on the DL with a right trapezius strain 10 days ago.
* Sammy SolÃs made his sixth rehab appearance for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday night, allowing one run on three hits in one inning of relief. The left-hander, out since April 19 with nerve irritation in his elbow, overall has allowed three runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking one.
* Chris Heisey is "feeling better," according to Baker and may be ready within a few days to go on another rehab assignment after his first attempt was cut short earlier this month. Heisey is trying to play through a torn right biceps tendon.
Note: The Nationals are offering personalized, autographed and MLB authenticated limited edition baseball cards in exchange for a donation to the franchise's charitable Dream Foundation. Participating players this season include Kelley, SolÃs, Tanner Roark, Michael A. Taylor and Blake Treinen. At the end of the season, each participating player will match all funds raised by his individual baseball card with a charitable donation of his own.
