The Nationals' injury list keeps growing.
This time it's Roger Bernadina who will spend some time in the trainer's room, this after suffering a strained right hamstring while running from first to third on a wild pitch in the fourth inning of tonight's game.
Bernadina slid head-first into third and immediately grimaced while asking the umpire for time. He got to his feet, hunched over at the waist and talked things over with trainer Lee Kuntz.
The Nats outfielder started to walk off the field with Kuntz, but after getting just a few feet towards the dugout, Bernadina had to stop walking, clearly in a lot of pain. Xavier Nady came on to replace Bernadina. Nady moved into right field, while Bryce Harper went from right to center.
The Nats lead the Blue Jays 4-1 through six innings, largely because of another injury that we saw tonight.
Toronto starter Brandon Morrow left the game after just nine pitches due to what the Blue Jays are calling a left oblique strain. Morrow has been exceptional for the Jays this season, going 7-3 and entering tonight with a 2.90 ERA.
He was charged with one of the two runs the Nats scored in the first, and Washington then tacked on two more in the third on Adam LaRoche's two-run homer to deep right.
The Morrow injury won't just benefit the Nats tonight, but since the Jays will need to count on their bullpen to get them through tonight's game, that unit will likely be worn down in the final two games of this series.
Edwin Jackson has been on-point through his six innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits.
Update: Can the Nats play American League East teams on the road every night?
Washington stayed perfect on this interleague road trip by rolling over the Blue Jays 6-3 tonight. The Nats outhit the Jays 14-4 and never trailed after jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Jackson went eight-plus innings, lowering his ERA to 3.02 and improving to 3-3 on the season. Harper had a big night, singling three times, walking once, stealing a base and driving in his 18th run of the season.
