Bernadina signs with Phillies, Ohlendorf returns (plus Nats lineup)

CHICAGO - Roger Bernadina was released by the Nationals on Monday, but he won't be going too far, either geographically or within the realm of Major League Baseball. Bernadina has signed with the Phillies, the team announced today, meaning the Nats will see the speedy outfielder in about a week and a half when they head to Philadelphia for a three-game set against their division rivals. After clearing waivers, Bernadina - who had been the longest-tenured Nats player prior to Monday - was free to sign with any team. He chose the Phillies, and will join a team with which he is familiar and play in a ballpark where he's seen action in 22 games in his career, second-most among ballparks that are not Nats Park. Bernadina hit .178 with a .517 OPS with the Nats this season after posting a really strong 2012 campaign, in which he batted .291 with a .777 OPS. He was released after the Nats acquired David DeJesus in a trade with the Cubs. Meanwhile, Anthony Rendon will get a day off today, with Steve Lombardozzi moving into the Nats' starting lineup at second base. Kurt Suzuki will be behind the plate, giving Wilson Ramos a rest. Ross Ohlendorf will be activated off the disabled list sometime within the next couple of hours - we're still waiting on the move to be made official - and will start for the Nats tonight. The veteran right-hander is returning from a stint on the DL due to right shoulder inflammation. He made two rehab starts down in the minors before being cleared to return, going three innings in a start with Triple-A Syracuse and then four innings at high Single-A Potomac. Ohlendorf has gone 2-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 10 games (two starts) with the Nats this season. He'll take over the rotation spot previously held by Taylor Jordan, who was placed on the DL and shut down for the season earlier this week.
