Bryce Harper starting in right, batting third for NL All-Stars

Bryce Harper will start in right field and bat third for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star Game. It is the 22-year-old's third appearance in the Midsummer Classic after playing left field and going 0-for-1 with a walk in 2012 and then starting in center in 2013 while going 0-for-2.

Harper will get an early chance to collect his first career All-Star hit when he faces Houston's Dallas Keuchel, who was named the American League's starter earlier today by manager Ned Yost. Harper was 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout in his only game against Keuchel back in 2012.

Harper finished the first half of the season with the majors' best on-base percentage (.464), slugging percentage (.704) and OPS (1.168). His .339 batting average and 26 homers are second best in the NL while his 61 RBIs are fourth most.

Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt, whose .340 batting average leads Harper by one point, will bat cleanup.

Harper will be joined in the outfield by Dodgers rookie Joc Pederson (right) and Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen (center).

"It's unbelievable." Harper said. "Being able to play alongside some of the best baseball players in the world is a lot of fun. Guys that you play against, being able to get to know them a little bit for those couple days and playing against the guys that you see across the dugout and playing for a manager that you've never played for. I mean, it's just an all around great experience. It's a great event that MLB puts on. I'm very, very excited."

With Max Scherzer unavailable to start for the NL, manager Bruce Bochy has decided to send Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke to the mound first.
