Now back to baseball ...

Wednesday's series finale saw the return of Stephen Strasburg to the mound at Nats Park after a stint on the disabled list with a sore right elbow. The right-hander looked like the Strasburg of old right out of the gate, producing an 1-2-3 first inning while striking out two and touching 97 mph.

District-34-sidebar.jpgThen the third inning came and the hearts of Nationals fans everywhere sunk as Strasburg left the game with an elbow injury and a grimacing look on his face. If you missed it from late last night (or I guess I should say early Thursday morning), MASNsports.com's Mark Zuckerman detailed the three pitches leading up Strasburg's exit. As reported after the game, Strasburg will have an MRI on his right elbow Thursday to get the full extent of the injury.

So where do the Nationals go from here? Before Byron Kerr and I give our reactions, we'll hear from manager Dusty Baker and his initial reaction to Strasburg's injury and the Nats' plan moving forward. It seems like the best-case scenario is that Strasburg will be shut down until the postseason starts, so what does that mean for the rest of the piching staff? How will Baker use the influx of relievers in the bullpen and young arms like Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and A.J. Cole? The ripple effects of this situation are too many to count.

And yet, with that scary situaiton, there was still good news to come out of last night's game against the Braves. The Nationals, admist a possibly devastating injury to their starting pitcher, fought back from multiple deficits to walk off the Braves in the 11th inning on Wilson Ramos' RBI single with the bases loaded. We'll recap the win while also discussing some of the Nationals' biggest strengths and weaknesses heading into the postseason.
