The Nationals have made another move, adding from a division rival. This time, it's off the field, as former Marlins general manager and manager Dan Jennings is joining the Nationals front office as a special assistant to president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo.
Jennings will focus on all facets of scouting operations for the Nationals, according to a team-issued release.
Jennings, 55, is considered one of the most highly respected minds in the game and was the Marlins GM from 2013-2015. In May, Jennings swapped his shirt and tie for a uniform and headed to the dugout, taking over the managerial duties when Mike Redmond was dismissed.
After the Marlins struggled to a 55-69 record down the stretch, Jennings was fired and replaced by Don Mattingly.
Jennings held various scouting positions with the Reds, Mariners and Rays from 1986-2001. He was named Marlins vice president of player personnel in 2002 and later promoted to assistant GM in 2007.
