The Nationals got a major boost last night from a pair of key players returning from injury, with Max Scherzer dealing on the mound and Jayson Werth homering at the plate. Tonight, they'll get another boost with the return of Trea Turner from the disabled list.
Turner, who has been out exactly 60 days since taking a fastball off his right wrist, is finally good to go. He played in seven rehab games with Single-A Potomac and Triple-A Syracuse, and though he was only 2-for-21 with one walk and seven strikeouts, he reportedly looked better at the tail end of the assignment. With Turner officially activated off the 60-day DL, the Nationals optioned Adrián Sanchez to Syracuse and transferred Ryan Raburn to the 60-day DL to clear a 40-man roster spot.
Turner and his fellow Nationals will be facing Vance Worley, who surprisingly has dominated them over the last month. The journeyman right-hander allowed one total run in 13 total innings over two starts. Whether he has another one of those in him remains to be seen.
Wilmer Difo, who performed admirably as Turner's replacement at shortstop for the last two months, is going to remain in the lineup and make his first career start in right field. Werth is available off the bench tonight, according to Dusty Baker, and will be back starting Wednesday.
Edwin Jackson has had several strong outings for the Nats over the last month and tonight he'll carry his 2.93 ERA into a start against the fearsome Giancarlo Stanton and the rest of the Marlins lineup.
