The Nationals promised more September call-ups, and they have delivered with two more additions today: Michael A. Taylor and Wilmer Difo. Taylor's promotion from Double-A Harrisburg isn't surprising, given Adam Eaton's lingering knee injury (we will hopefully know more about that soon). Taylor hit only .248 with a .324 on-base percentage and 69 strikeouts in 57 minor league games, but he did get hot down the stretch, hitting .383 with six doubles, four homers and 14 RBIs in his last 12 games for the Senators.
Taylor's not in tonight's lineup against Jacob deGrom. Considering he's 1-for-24 with 13 strikeouts in his career against the Mets ace, that's understandable. So it's Gerardo Parra again in right field, though it's Asdrúbal Cabrera filling Eaton's position in the batting order behind Trea Turner. The veteran is going to need to put together some quality at-bats tonight and give Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto a chance to drive in runs.
Max Scherzer, meanwhile, makes his third start off the injured list. He should be good to ramp up to 100 pitches, but Davey Martinez said he'll be monitoring his workload and high-stress innings carefully as he decides how far to push his ace.
