So, here are the answers to the two questions on everyone's mind right now: 1) It's going to rain this evening. Hard. And it's not supposed to stop until Friday morning. 2) According to a Major League Baseball official, any postponed games that could impact home field advantage for the National League Division Series must be played before the postseason begins.
What that means: The Nationals, who currently lead the Dodgers by two games with five to play (but would lose a tiebreaker based on head-to-head record this season), very well may have to play at least one, possibly two, makeup games against the Diamondbacks early next week if they can't get tonight's game or tomorrow afternoon's series finale in.
For now, there's nothing to report on the status of tonight's game, so everyone will proceed as though they're going to play. Or at least try to play. Gio Gonzalez is the scheduled starter for the Nationals, his final tune-up before the playoffs, and so this is a somewhat important outing for the left-hander. The enigmatic Shelby Miller starts for Arizona, trying to end what has been a dismal season for him on a high note.
Stay tuned for updates. We'll try to get them to you as soon as we know anything.
