After everything that's happened in the last 48 hours, would you believe the Nationals have a chance today to win their season series against the Cardinals? Yep, they enter this afternoon's finale at Nationals Park with a 3-2 record against St. Louis over the last week, and a win in this one would wrap it up. At worst, they'll split the six-game season series. (Side note: How ridiculous is it that these teams are done playing each other for the regular season on April 21?)
Max Scherzer gets the ball against his hometown team, and on the heels of back-to-back dominant starts, you know he'll be fired up to try to pitch the Nats to victory. He'll be pitching with a strong wind blowing in from left field, and that will almost certainly keep some balls in the park hit by righties, though lefties could benefit if they get one up in the air down the right field line.
The enigmatic Carlos MartÃnez starts for the Cardinals. He's been a starter. He's been a closer. Now he's back starting again, and he's off to a ragged start this season (0-3, 7.80 ERA) and has yet to reach the sixth inning. With Juan Soto on the injured list until at least April 30, Davey Martinez is again going with Trea Turner as his No. 3 hitter and hoping the boys can deliver enough clutch hits to pull off a victory.
