Game 34 lineups: Nats at Phillies

Another day, another chance for the Nationals to flip the script and beat the Phillies, something they've been unable to do in four tries so far this season. None of those previous four games, however, had Max Scherzer on the mound. Tonight's does.

Scherzer gets the ball on the heels of a dominant outing at Fenway Park last Friday, when he allowed one run over six innings, striking out 11 without issuing a walk. He will need to be at his best tonight to hold down the Phillies lineup and give his lineup a chance to score some early runs off Zack Wheeler.

Eaton-Swings-Gray-Sidebar.jpgThe good news: The Nationals have crushed Wheeler in the past. In 18 career starts against them, he's 5-10 with a 5.01 ERA and 1.491 WHIP. The bad news: Most of the guys who were responsible for those stats are not currently with the Nats. But Trea Turner (9-for-22, one homer) and Adam Eaton (10-for-22, two doubles) are still here, and you've got to think Juan Soto (4-for-18, one homer) is primed to do some damage regardless of his history with Wheeler.

Meanwhile, Brock Holt gets his first start since joining the Nationals over the weekend. The veteran utility man will start at third base, with Asdrúbal Cabrera moving across the diamond to handle first base and Eric Thames getting the night off. Victor Robles also returns to the lineup, as promised, after sitting out the first two games of the series.
