Game 83 lineups: Nats at Padres

Who's ready for some late-night baseball? Yes, after their earliest start of the season Sunday morning, the Nationals now take the field tonight in San Diego for their latest start of the season. The caffeine intake has already begun here at the home office.

A four-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers made for a tough weekend, and the task doesn't get particularly easier over the next four nights against the talented Padres, who at the moment own a .581 winning percentage that would have them running away with the National League East but leaves them in third place in the NL West, a full 4 1/2 games behind the Giants.

San Diego sends one of its best to the mound tonight in Joe Musgrove, who threw a no-hitter in his second start of the season and enters with a 2.63 ERA and 0.876 WHIP. He did get roughed up by the Reds his last time out, allowing five runs in four innings, but he nonetheless presents a challenge for a depleted Nationals lineup.

Yan Gomes is also back after getting hit by a pitch on his right arm Saturday night. He's batting sixth and catching. And here's a twist: Alcides Escobar is leading off and playing second base, which allows Josh Harrison to play left field and bat seventh.

Jon Lester gets the start for the Nats, and he really needs to put forth a good one tonight. Only two weeks ago, the veteran lefty sported a 3.60 ERA after shutting out the Mets for six innings. Tonight he takes the mound with a 5.34 ERA, having been battered for 14 runs over his last 13 1/3 innings.
