Game 85 lineups: Nats at Padres

The Nationals have done OK at the plate through the first two games of this weekend's series in San Diego, scoring 11 total runs. (Though they did strand a bunch of runners on base late during Tuesday night's 7-4 loss.) Of greater concern has been a pitching staff that has given up 12 runs in 17 innings.

Or more specifically, a rotation that has given up 11 runs in 7 2/3 innings. That's not going to cut it, and it has put quite a strain on the bullpen. So the pressure's on Patrick Corbin tonight to provide quality and length against the Padres.

Corbin had a weird outing last time on the mound against the Dodgers. He cruised through three scoreless innings on 41 pitches, then labored in the fourth and crumbled in the fifth, giving up a pair of homers including a grand slam to Max Muncy. He's got to be better tonight for the Nats to have a chance.

The lineup will look to continue to produce in the cool Petco Park air as it has done the last two nights, this time against Chris Paddack. The right-hander has been very hit-or-miss this season; he's allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight of his 15 starts, but five or more in three other starts.

Davey Martinez is sticking with the same lineup he's used the last two nights, so that means Alcides Escobar remains in the leadoff spot, ahead of Trea Turner and Juan Soto.
