Game 91 lineups: Nats vs. Padres

You couldn't have drawn up a worse script for the first day coming out of the All-Star break from the Nationals' perspective that what transpired before and during Friday night's 24-8 loss to the Padres. So on some level, you have to be confident tonight has to be better, right?

First and foremost, though, the Nats desperately need a quality start after Erick Fedde retired only four batters on Friday. That task falls on Patrick Corbin, who simply needs to be better in the second half than he was in the first half. No excuses for the left-hander at this point.

Like Fedde and all the relievers Friday, Corbin will be working with René Rivera behind the plate, the just-added 37-year-old catcher getting the starting nod once again with Yan Gomes and Alex Avila on the injured list and Tres Barrera confined to the bench.

Thumbnail image for Zimmerman-HR-Swing-Blue-NLDS-Sidebar.jpgThe lineup is identical to Friday's lineup, with one exception: Ryan Zimmerman is hitting cleanup and playing first base against Padres lefty Blake Snell. It's the first time Zimmerman has been in the lineup in 10 games, not because of injury but because of his slump at the plate, Josh Bell's resurgence at the plate and a lack of left-handers opposing the Nationals.

There is a line of severe storms rolling through the area this afternoon and evening, and it's going to impact Nationals Park at some point. It's just a question of timing, if it rolls through before 7:05 p.m. or after. Stay tuned for updates.
