ATLANTA - The Nationals have a chance to take three of four from the Braves with a win in tonight's series finale. They would've loved to have Max Scherzer on the mound for this one, as originally hoped, but that won't happen. They planned to have Austin Voth on the mound, but that won't happen either. The right-hander has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right biceps tendinitis. So it's Plan C, and that's Joe Ross.
It's been a weird season for Ross, to say the least. He's made 17 big league appearances, all out of the bullpen across two separate stints, and he has posted an 11.05 ERA. He's made eight minor league appearances, all as a starter, and he has posted a 4.28 ERA. So what can reasonably be expected tonight from Ross against a really good Braves lineup?
Suffice it to say, the Nationals are probably going to need to score some runs tonight. But they're facing a guy they've had some success against before: Kevin Gausman, who was torched for eight runs in one inning the last time he went up against the Nats.
