Karns to get X-ray on leg, Garcia getting closer to throwing (plus lineups)

VIERA, Fla. - When Davey Johnson sat down for his pregame session with reporters late this morning, the Netherlands was tied with Cuba in the bottom of the ninth inning of its elimination game in the World Baseball Classic. By the time Johnson's session had ended, the Netherlands had won on a walk-off sacrifice fly. Johnson, who managed the Netherlands in the 2004 Summer Olympics, was told of the win as he headed out to get ready for batting practice to start. "All right!" Johnson yelled, as he pumped a fist in the air. Roger Bernadina didn't play for the Netherlands in today's game after being hit by a pitch on his wrist yesterday. Johnson said the Nationals got good reports on Bernadina, and he doesn't appear to have suffered any serious injuries. On another injury note, the Nats will have Nathan Karns get an X-ray on his ailing right leg. The team will have a specialist look over Karns' MRI results to try and figure out what was causing the tightness in Karns' leg, but the doctor also requested the Nats provide an X-ray. "We didn't know it was going to require that to get a true evaluation," Johnson said. "That'll go out today along with the other stuff, and then wait and see." Christian Garcia said today that his right forearm/wrist is finally pain-free, and he hopes to begin throwing by the end of the week. Garcia hasn't picked up a baseball since Feb. 21 after feeling some discomfort in the arm during a Feb. 17 bullpen session. Johnson said that the Nats have accelerated Garcia's rehab program a bit, but they're going to hold him out of any throwing work for at least a few more days. The Nats would like to have Stephen Strasburg throw somewhere around 70 pitches today, Johnson said, and if he can get through five innings, that'd be ideal. Strasburg will get a couple of the Braves' regulars today; both the Upton brothers have made the trip, as did Juan Francisco. Here are the lineups for today's game: For the Nats CF Denard Span RF Jayson Werth LF Bryce Harper DH Ryan Zimmerman 1B Adam LaRoche SS Ian Desmond 2B Danny Espinosa C Kurt Suzuki 3B Chad Tracy P Stephen Strasburg For the Braves SS Tyler Pastornicky CF Jordan Schafer LF Justin Upton 3B Juan Francisco CF B.J. Upton 1B Ernesto Mejia 2B Blake DeWitt C Christian Bethancourt P Paul Maholm
