Tyler Moore didn't need to wait long to rejoin the Nationals.
Just four days after being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, the Nats brought Moore back to help fill in for injured first baseman Adam LaRoche.
Moore got in around midnight after playing one game for the Chiefs during a brief minor league stint. Is he rested to play today against the Athletics?
"I've had worse," he joked.
Syracuse was in Columbus when Moore got the call to head west. He didn't expect to be called back up so quickly.
"No, definitely not. I knew Rochy was kind of banged up a little bit," Moore said. "He's been one of our hottest hitters and you can't really replace him defensively, so hopefully he gets back quick and can help this team. But I'm just here to fill in and do my job and see what happens."
Moore said he's looking forward to the opportunity to be back in the majors so fast, possibly with consistent at-bats after he received just 33 plate appearances in the Nats' first 33 games.
"I just get to play some baseball, so I'm very excited about it," he said.
This will be Moore's second stint with the Nats this season and he has commonly been the team's choice to option to the minors when roster space is needed. Moore tries to not let the Washington-Syracuse shuttle wear on him.
"It does, but I think you've got to kind of have that attitude where if you let it get to you, it kind of eats you up inside," he said. "So you've got to use it as a positive and just kind of wing it. ...
"We've had a bunch of injuries this year, but it's good to get guys up and get them experience so they can always fill in at future times because there's always injuries. So I think this place has done a great job of doing that and I just want to continue to do some damage."
