Nationals agree to terms with infielder/outfielder Brock Holt

The Washington Nationals agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder/outfielder Brock Holt and optioned pitcher Ben Braymer to Alternate Training Site (Fredericksburg) on Saturday. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Nationals transferred infielder Starlin Castro (broken right wrist) to the 60-day Injured List. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

Holt, 32, joins the Nationals after beginning the 2020 season with the Milwaukee Brewers. He's appeared in 655 games across nine Major League seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2012), Boston Red Sox (2013-19) and Milwaukee Brewers (2020). He's hit .269 with 108 doubles, 16 triples, 23 home runs, 207 RBI, 35 stolen bases and 284 runs scored along the way.

In 2019, Holt batted a career-high .297 with 14 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 31 RBI and 38 runs scored in 87 games with Boston. A member of the 2018 World Series-champion Red Sox, Holt is the only player in Major League history to hit for the cycle in a Postseason game (Game 3 of the ALDS on 10/8 at New York).

A National League All-Star in 2015, Holt has appeared at every position except for pitcher and catcher, including second base (243 G), outfield (202 G), third base (140 G), shortstop (59 G) and first base (36 G) during his Major League career.

Braymer, 26, appeared in one game for Washington in 2020, going 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA.
