Game 31 lineups: Nats at Red Sox

The 2020 regular season is now 50 percent complete, and the Nationals have won exactly one series to date. And even that requires an asterisk: They won both of their designated "road" games against the Blue Jays at Nationals Park, which officially counted as its own two-game series even though it immediately followed Toronto's two straight wins in the same park with the Nats serving as home team.

Point is, this team simply hasn't been able to get onto any kind of modest roll and at least take two of three from an opponent, which explains why they're 12-18 heading into today's series finale at Fenway Park. A finale that offers yet another opportunity to win a series.

Voth-Throws-Blue-Sidebar.jpgTo do it, the Nationals will need to continue to hit as well as they did in the weekend's first two games and (unlike Saturday night) actually turn those hits into runs. They stranded 14 runners on base in a 5-3 loss, which ranks on the short list of "Most Frustrating Ways to Lose a Ballgame."

On top of all that, the Nats somehow need to get some quality out of Austin Voth, given yet another chance to get his season going on the right track after five subpar starts. Voth and Davey Martinez were hopeful after his last outing that they had identified some things that could lead to more success (most notably, more fastballs the second time through the lineup). We will find out shortly if the right-hander can implement that strategy and see positive results from it.
