Nationals players to read to youth at D.C. public libraries on Saturday

WHAT: To celebrate the DC Public Library's 2015 Summer Reading program sponsored by the Washington Nationals, Drew Storen, Stephen Strasburg and Aaron Barrett will visit three DC public library locations on Saturday, July 18 to read to and interact with local youth enrolled in the three-month initiative.

The 2015 Summer Reading Program, which runs through August, is the largest program in the District that addresses the "summer slide," or the loss of learning that children experience during the summer months. Comprised of several age-specific initiatives, the program encourages summer reading by offering local youth various baseball-related incentives, including a Nationals/DC Public Library soft baseball (kids up to the age of five), a Nationals Activity Book (ages six through 12) and tickets to select Nationals games for students (ages 6 through 18) who reach the eight hour summer reading goal.

The Nationals have made a three-year $750,000 commitment to the DC Public Library's Summer Reading Program. For each year of the partnership, the Nationals are contributing $250,000 in tickets, merchandise, program collateral and other support. Through this partnership, the Nationals aim to reach thousands of children and encourage continued learning during summer vacation.
