Nationals recall left-hander Ben Braymer, place Seth Romero on injured list

The Washington Nationals recalled left-handed pitcher Ben Braymer from the Alternate Training Site (Fredericksburg) and placed left-handed pitcher Seth Romero on the 10-day Injured List with a broken right hand on Monday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Braymer, 26, joins the active roster for the first time in his career, and will make his Major League debut with his first appearance. Washington's 2018 co-Minor League Pitcher of the Year, Braymer is 18-17 with two saves and a 3.64 ERA in 75 games (338.2 IP) in four Minor League seasons.

In 2019, Braymer began the season with Double-A Harrisburg, where he went 4-4 with a 2.51 ERA (22 ER/79.0 IP) and 69 strikeouts in 13 starts, before being promoted to Triple-A Fresno where he went 0-6 with a 7.20 ERA (48 ER/60.0 IP) in 13 starts. He finished the season posting a 3.43 ERA (8 ER/21.0 IP) and recording 17 strikeouts in his last four starts. Braymer finished the 2019 campaign leading Washington's Minor League system with 26 starts, ranked third with 139.0 innings pitched and sixth with 116 strikeouts.

Washington's 18th round pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, Braymer attended Auburn (AL) University, after transferring from Louisiana State University at Eunice. He is currently rated as Washington's No. 24 prospect by MLBPipeline.com and Baseball America.

Romero, 24, appeared in three games for Washington in 2020, going 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA.
