The Washington Nationals today returned from rehab and reinstated outfielder Jayson Werth from the 60-Day Disabled List and placed right-handed pitcher Henry Rodriguez on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to Aug. 1, with a low back strain. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Werth, who missed the last 75 games with a left radius fracture, is batting .276 (27-for-98) with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, 12 RBI, 14 walks and three stolen bases in 27 games this season with the Nationals.
The 33-year-old went 6-for-24 with two doubles, five RBI and seven walks in eight games during his rehab assignment with Syracuse of the Triple-A International League and Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League.
Rodriguez, 25, is 1-3 with two holds, nine saves and a 5.83 ERA in 35 relief appearances this season with Washington.
