The Nationals welcome Stephen Strasburg back to the mound tonight. The right-hander was reinstated after landing on the 15-day disabled list back on July 5. Strasburg strained his left oblique the day before in the fourth inning of a start against the Giants. The Nationals look for Strasburg to regain the form he showed before the setback. The 27-year-old was 2-0 with a 1.15 ERA while striking out 18 and walking four across 15 1/3 innings in his prior three starts leading up to his DL stint.
To make room for Strasburg, the Nationals have placed second baseman Dan Uggla on the 15-day DL with back spasms. Uggla has batted .191 in 126 plate appearances in 56 games this season with four doubles, two triples, a home run and 14 RBIs.
Strasburg has experienced his most frustrating season of his career, battling nagging injuries since spring training. A sprained left ankle suffered in late March bothered him throughout the first two months of the year. A back alignment issue was followed by a strained trapezius muscle, which sent Strasburg to the DL for the first time back on May 30.
