Nationals release 2016 schedule, Marlins visit D.C. for home opener

The Washington Nationals announced their 2016 schedule this afternoon. The season will begin with a two-game series in Atlanta on April 4-6, with an off-day April 5. Opening day in D.C. will follow with the Marlins visiting Nationals Park for a three-game set beginning April 7.

The Nats will once again celebrate the Fourth of July in the nation's capital when the Brewers start a three-game series. The Nationals' other home holiday game will come against the Phillies on Labor Day (Sept. 5).

nats-park-on-field-lineups-sidebar.jpgThe annual Beltway Series with the Orioles is featured as a four-game home-and-home series. The Nationals will finish up a nine-game road trip with two in Baltimore on Aug. 22-23 and then the Orioles will travel to Nationals Park the following two days.

The Nationals' other interleague action will come against the American League Central, with visits to Nationals Park from the Twins (April 22-24), Tigers (May 9-11) and Indians (Aug. 9-10). The Nats will hit the road for games against the White Sox (June 7-9), the Royals (May 2-4) and Indians (July 26-27).

The Nationals will conclude the 2016 regular season with a seven-game homestand featuring a four-game set with the Diamondbacks (Sept. 26-29) and finishing with three games against the Marlins (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).

Nineteen of the Nationals' first 22 games will come against divisional opponents. Washington will finish the 2016 season playing 25 of their final 32 games within the National League East as well.
