Nationals select contract of Josh Rogers

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Josh Rogers and transferred right-handed pitcher Kyle McGowin to the 60-day Injured List on Saturday. Rogers will serve as the 29th man for Washington's doubleheader against the New York Mets. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Rogers, 27, joins the Nationals after going 7-3 with a 3.70 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) with Triple-A Rochester. He struck out 49 batters and issued 21 walks in 73.0 innings pitched. He started the season with Triple-A Norfolk, Baltimore's top affiliate, before signing a minor league contract with Washington on June 4.

Rogers returns to the Major Leagues for the first time since 2019 when he went 0-1 with an 8.79 ERA in five games with the Baltimore Orioles. He also appeared in three games for Baltimore in 2018, making his Major League debut on Aug. 28 and earning the win vs. Toronto.

Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 11th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisville (KY), Rogers is 39-32 with one save and a 3.88 ERA in 97 games (89 starts) across seven Minor League seasons. He's recorded 408 strikeouts in 526.1 innings pitched along the way.
