MILWAUKEE - The Nationals have officially called up right-handed pitching prospect Taylor Hill from Triple-A Syracuse, and designated infielder Greg Dobbs for assignment to make room on the 40- and 25-man rosters.
The Nats have 10 days to release, trade or outright Dobbs to the minors. Hill, 25, will be making his first appearance in the majors and will be available in relief today.
On top of those two roster moves, the Nats reinstated utility man Jeff Kobernus from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Syracuse while releasing right-hander Christian Garcia.
Hill, a sixth-round pick in 2011, has gone 9-2 with a 1.92 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) for Syracuse this season, tossing three complete games. Hill leads the International League in innings, is tied for first in ERA and ranks second in WHIP.
The 35-year-old Dobbs batted .214 with two RBIs in 21 games for the Nationals.
Kobernus, 25, went 15-for-55 (.273) in 15 rehab games. He was on the disabled list since April 12 with a fractured left hand.
Garcia, 28, posted a 2.13 ERA in 13 games with the Nats in 2012. He was 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 10 games with Syracuse this season.
Update: Jayson Werth, Danny Espinosa and Jose Lobaton are out of the lineup following last night's 16-inning win.
