Nats lead Mets late (Final score: 6-2)

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Nationals have opened up a four-run lead on the Mets after pushing across three runs in the top of the sixth. The damage started when Ryan Zimmerman led off the inning with a double and was driven in by Jayson Werth's RBI single to right. That was Werth's first RBI base hit of the season. (He had an RBI walk on opening day.) Rejoice. Xavier Nady followed by singling to left, and Roger Bernadina subsequently reached on an error by second baseman Daniel Murphy allowing Werth to score. Wilson Ramos drove in Nady a batter later on a double to right, and just like that, the Nats' 1-0 lead was up to 4-0. Ross Detwiler's day is now done after five spectacular innings of work. The lefty didn't allow a run, gave up just two hits and struck out six. He retired 15 of the last 16 he faced, and let just three balls out of the infield all night. Just a dynamite performance by Detwiler. Update: Washington added one more in the road-half of the seventh on Werth's second RBI single of the night. The hit plated Zimmerman, who had reached on a walk. Coming into today, Werth was 1-for-14 with three walks, seven strikeouts and one RBI. Tonight, Werth is 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Update II: Craig Stammen allowed the Mets to crack into the score column in the seventh when Jason Bay scored on a Justin Turner RBI single to make it 5-1. The Mets had a shot to get closer, but credit Sean Burnett for some quality work out of the Nats' bullpen, as the lefty came on with two on and one out and got Washington out of the jam. Update III: It's a final - the Nats beat the Mets 6-2 to even the series at one game apiece. Back from the clubhouse with much more in a bit.
