On Saturday, the Nationals will remember the September 11th attacks in Washington, New York and Pennsylvania with several special events throughout the game.
During batting practice, Nationals players wore DC Fire Department caps to honor the emergency personnel who responded to the attacks. In a pregame ceremony, Mike Rizzo and Ivan Rodriguez will be recognized as Honorary Fire Chiefs with a special helmet presentation.
Additionally, the Post 9/11 Foundation will present the Nationals with a flag that was flown at Ground Zero. At the end of the third inning, fans will watch an exclusive broadcast showing scenes from the day after the 9/11 attack, when Detective Rich Miller first raised the American flag at Ground Zero.
The Nationals will display the flag at several important events before returning it for the 10th anniversary next September. The Follow the Flag tour, which begins today, will follow various commemorative US Flags across the country before returning them to the National 9/11 Museum for next year's ceremonies.
