Nats throwing Zimmermann and Scherzer at Blue Jays in Tuesday's doubleheader

Heavy thunderstorms rolling through the nation's capital forced the postponement of tonight's game. The Nationals and Blue Jays will make it up as part of a split doubleheader on Tuesday with the afternoon game scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m.

The Blue Jays will stick to the plan as well, with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey pitching Game 1 and right-hander Marco Estrada hurling in Game 2.

The postponement allows the Nats an extra day to rest Denard Span, who was scheduled to miss tonight's game while dealing with a sore right knee.

However, the added day does nothing to alleviate the Nationals' starting pitching predicament. Williams is without a defined starter for Wednesday's series finale, with both Stephen Strasburg and Doug Fister on the 15-day disabled list.

"If we look at it as a whole, it's really not a benefit," Williams said. "We're still in flux with the starting rotation so you push both guys back to the same day ... it doesn't help out starting pitching because we still have to look at potential starters. It doesn't benefit us either way."

Williams did not have an update on Strasburg, who was meeting with the Nats' orthopedist at the ballpark today.
