One way to forget a rough weekend (Nats open series with dominating win)

Six batters into tonight's game, Marlins starter Wade LeBlanc had yet to retire a Nationals hitter. Five hits - four singles and a double - and a walk led to four Nats runs, and just like that, Washington has a nice 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Nothing like a three-game set against the Marlins to get the Nats back on track after a rough sweep at the hands of the Braves over the weekend. Denard Span and Jayson Werth led off the ballgame with singles, and after a Bryce Harper walk, Ryan Zimmerman ripped a single up the middle to bring in two. Harper was thrown out at third, but the Nats weren't done. Ian Desmond doubled to left and Tyler Moore, making his first start of the season, singled, bringing in two more runs to make it 4-0. In their final 25 innings against the Braves, the Nats put up just a single run. Tonight, they have four in the first frame, and Jordan Zimmermann will take the mound in the bottom of the first with a nice cushion. The Nats got beat down by Atlanta yesterday. They might be letting some of that frustration out on the Marlins tonight. Update: Three straight doubles in the third inning gave the Nats two more runs. Then Zimmerman crushed his first homer of the season to tack on two more. It's 8-0 Nats mid-way through the fourth. Desmond, Moore and Steve Lombardozzi strung together two-baggers off LeBlanc in the third and then Zimmerman followed a Werth single with a two-run homer out to left. LeBlanc is done, and the Nats are cruising. Can they play the Marlins every week? Would Major League Baseball allow that? Update II: It's now 10-3 after seven innings, as the Marlins have finally gotten to Zimmermann for two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Zimmermann is still at just 84 pitches through seven, however, and is in line for his third win of the season. He's struck out five and walked one thus far. Every starting position player for the Nats with the exception of Harper has at least two hits and a run scored. Zimmerman has four RBIs, and in their first starts of the season, Moore and Lombardozzi have combined for four hits and four RBIs. Update III: Zimmermann notched his first career nine-inning complete game, allowing just six hits and two runs in a 10-3 Nats win. It took only 103 pitches for Zimmermann to mow through nine innings against this Marlins lineup. Zimmermann threw an eight-inning complete game back on June 29, 2011 against the Angels, a game that he lost, 1-0. Dan Haren was the winner that night, strangely enough. The three-game losing streak is over, and the Nats move to 4-0 against the Marlins this season.
