Perry roughed up by the Braves' bench

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Things started just fine for Ryan Perry here today. Perry came into this afternoon's game in the third inning with two runners on base, inherited from Ross Detwiler, and he struck out Dan Uggla looking to end the frame. In the fourth inning, Perry allowed two singles, but he got an inning-ending double play, with a hand from Anthony Rendon, who stepped on the bag at third and then delivered a strike across the diamond to nab Reed Johnson at first. But in the fifth, facing a lineup consisting mostly of Braves minor leaguers, Perry got smacked around pretty good. He gave up a deep homer to Jordan Parraz to start the inning, then allowed three consecutive Braves to reach base, loading the bases. A Juan Francisco single to right scored another run, and after Perry issued a walk to Christian Bethancourt to again load 'em up, Davey Johnson came out of the dugout and asked for the baseball. Perry, who still has one option remaining, is likely to be a part of the rotation at Triple-A Syracuse to begin the season. He hopes to step into the Nationals' No. 6 or No. 7 starter role, being a guy who can slide into the big league rotation and make a spot start if needed. This is just one outing for Perry, but it wasn't a sharp one. Brandon Mann came on in relief of Perry and allowed two more runs to come in, making it a 7-3 Braves lead after five innings.
