Stephen Strasburg dominant in 4-1 win

An error and wild pitch led to the Rockies' first run of game. With one out, Ben Paulsen hit a sharp grounder down the first base line. Ryan Zimmerman shifted to his left but the ball skipped over his glove and into right field. Paulsen hustled to second on Zimmerman's third error of the season.

D.J. LeMahieu's groundout advanced Paulsen to third. With Nick Hundley batting, Stephen Strasburg bounced a curveball that jumped away from Wilson Ramos. The Nats catcher hustled to the ball, but his throw to the Strasburg at the plate was wide, and Paulsen scored easily.

Update: The Nats missed a prime opportunity to tie the game in the sixth. After Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa issued a leadoff walk to Yunel Escobar, Ian Desmond rocketed a double to left.

With runners at second and third and no out, De La Rosa whiffed Ryan Zimmerman. Rockies manager Walt Weiss then instructed De La Rosa to intentionally walk Michael A. Taylor to load the bases for Ramos.

Ramos drilled a line drive, but right at Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes for the second out. Strasburg followed with a strikeout to end the threat.

The Nationals are 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and have stranded nine men.

Strasburg has allowed only the one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Update II: Bryce Harper delivered a two-out double in the seventh. Rockies right-hander Gonzalez Germen then walked Escobar and Desmond to load the bases.

With Zimmerman batting, Germen's slider skipped away from Nick Hundley, allowing Harper to race home to tie the game.

Escobar got nailed at third on the play after a careless wide turn.

Rockies pitchers have issued eight walks tonight.

Strasburg retired the last 10 batters he faced. The right-hander yielded only one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Strasburg threw 93 pitches.

Update III: The Nats put together a two-out rally in the eighth. Ramos singled to right and Clint Robinson drew a pinch-hit walk.

Jayson Werth then ripped a two-run triple into the right field corner to give the Nats the lead.

Casey Janssen pitched a perfect eighth inning.

Update IV: After reaching on a one-out base hit in the ninth, Escobar stole second base. On Desmond's flyout to right, Escobar tagged and took third with some aggressive baserunning.

Zimmerman followed with an RBI line-drive single to right to extend the Nats lead.

Right-hander Jonathan Papelbon is on to pitch the ninth.

Update V: Papelbon closed out the Rockies with a perfect ninth.

The Nationals beat the Rockies 4-1.
