This one has gotten ugly (Nats lose 8-0)

One of the teams playing at Nationals Park tonight has the best record in the major leagues. The other has essentially given up on the 2012 season. Hard to tell which is which, isn't it? The Nationals trail the Phillies 6-0 entering the fifth inning, and frankly, the Nats are lucky their deficit is only a half-dozen. They've been completely pushed around by their division rivals so far tonight. Stephen Strasburg tied a career-high by allowing six earned runs. He and catcher Jesus Flores combined to give up three stolen bases (including one by the opposing starter, Cliff Lee) and Strasburg also allowed an inside-the-park home run. On that inside-the-parker, hit by Jimmy Rollins, center fielder Roger Bernadina completely forgot to back up right fielder Bryce Harper, and when Harper went tumbling into the wall after failing to catch Rollins' flyball, the ball just sat there. Bernadina was nowhere nearby, and Harper had to hop off the warning track, chase after the ball and gun it in. By then, Rollins was already crossing home plate, making it a 6-0 game. Strasburg has been pulled after just four innings, tying for his second-shortest outing of the season. Now a lineup that's without Ryan Zimmerman, Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond will need to fight out of a six-run hole. Update: The Nats couldn't touch Lee tonight, notching just five hits over seven innings and failing to get in the run column off the Phillies lefty. Lee leaves after seven with the Phils still having a 6-0 lead. He retired the final 10 Nats he faced tonight and struck out seven. DeRosa has gone 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. Tyler Moore is 0-for-3 and left the bases loaded in the third. Harper is 0-for-4 with two Ks and his average is now down to .258, the lowest it's been since May 21. It hasn't been the best day in NatsTown. Update II: One of the worst games the Nationals have played in quite some time has come to an end. The Phillies take Game 1 of this three-game set by a score of 8-0. This is the fourth time the Nats have been shut out this season, and the second time in four games. The Braves are currently in a rain delay, leading 4-1 in the fifth, but it's an official ballgame. Should Atlanta end up winning that one, they'd trail the Nationals by 2 1/2 games in the NL East.
