Turner making first major league start (with lineups)

Center fielder Denard Span's trip to the disabled list with left hip inflammation this afternoon, and injuries sustained last night by infielder Yunel Escobar (right hand contusion) and center fielder Michael A. Taylor (right knee contusion), will result in prized Nationals rookie Trea Turner making his first major league start tonight.

Trea-Turner-Throw-White.jpgTurner will play second base and bat eighth in the opening game of a three-game series against the Marlins at Nationals Park. Since being summoned from Triple-A Syracuse last week, Turner is 0-for-5 in four games as a defensive replacement and pinch-hitter.

Right fielder Jayson Werth remains the leadoff hitter and in right field, with Danny Espinosa starting in left field and Bryce Harper in center. Werth has four multi-hit games in his past nine games.

Right-hander Max Scherzer (11-10, 2.79 ERA) starts for Washington against rookie lefty Adam Conley (1-1, 4.88 ERA). Scherzer is 0-2 with a 6.64 ERA in four August starts.
