Tyler Colvin owns Stephen Strasburg (Nats fall to Rockies 5-1)

Tyler Colvin had never faced Stephen Strasburg coming into tonight's game. Colvin has now seen Strasburg twice. He's homered off him in both at-bats. The Rockies have a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning, and it's entirely thanks to Colvin, whose solo home run in the second inning and two-run shot in the fourth have provided all the offense so far tonight. The second-inning home run wouldn't have happened if catcher Jesus Flores had been able to squeeze a foul pop up behind the plate two pitches prior to the longball. Flores went back towards the screen and never seemed to have a great read on the pop up. He tried to basket-catch it, but the ball bounced out of his glove for an error. Colvin made the Nationals pay for the mistake when he rocketed a 97-mph fastball deep into the second deck in right field. They don't announce the estimated distance of home runs here at Nats Park, but that thing was absolutely crushed. As one of my Twitter followers pointed out, it landed in Adam Dunn territory. Only two players have two career homers off Strasburg - Dan Uggla and Colvin. Uggla's done it in 15 plate appearances. Colvin's done it in two. Strasburg has been outpitched so far by fellow 23-year-old Drew Pomeranz, who six days ago was in Triple-A. The Rockies lefty has allowed just two baserunners through four innings - Flores, who reached on an error, and Bryce Harper, whose bloop single could've easily been caught. Update: What a fantastic effort by Pomeranz, who allowed just a single hit and no runs over 6 1/3 innings. He leaves after throwing just 81 pitches. The Rockies continue to limit their starters pitch counts, which the Nats will not be too upset about. They're thrilled to see anyone else on the mound right now. Strasburg's night ended after six innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts, and is in line for just his fourth loss of the season. The Nats trail 4-0 as we go to the eighth. Update II: It couldn't last forever. The Nationals' offensive hot streak came screeching to a halt tonight, as they managed just five hits in a 5-1 loss to the Rockies. They put up a fight in the ninth, getting the potential tying run into the on-deck circle, but just had too big a hole to climb out of. Pomeranz get the win, his first of the season and just the third of his career. Strasburg gets the loss and is now 9-4 on the year.
