Weekly Wrap: Nats trimming down roster

We're nine spring training games and just 10 days away from the Nats' season opener. As opening day is drawing closer, the Nationals have continued to trim their roster. On Monday, the Nats made a handful of cuts. Pitchers Erik Davis, Yunesky Maya and Ryan Perry, catcher Jhonatan Solano, infielder Chris Marrero and outfielder Corey Brown were sent to Triple-A Syracuse. Pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and infielder Zach Walters were sent to minor league camp. Catcher Chris Snyder was also granted his unconditional release, bringing the roster to 33 players. While the Nats have won just two of their last six games, pitchers have been on display. Fresh off his time at the World Baseball Classic, Ross Detwiler allowed one run in four innings on Sunday versus the Tigers. The next day, the Nats faced Detroit again. However, they suffered a 5-1 loss despite Drew Storen's scoreless inning. On Wednesday, the Nats earned a 7-5 win over Miami, in large part due to Chris Young's five scoreless innings. However, yesterday, Dan Haren struggled in his start, as the Nats fell to the Braves by a final score of 4-3.
