Werth goes deep as Nats break it open (Nats sweep Marlins)

Davey Johnson was asked before today's game whether he feels he needs to monitor Jayson Werth's left wrist, which doctors expect won't be full strength until after the season ends. That's the wrist Werth broke last May, the one that he says limited his power stroke upon his return to the lineup last year. Johnson said Werth felt like the wrist was pretty weak coming into spring training but that it's gaining strength lately. Given the home run Werth just crushed into the left field seats above the visitors' bullpen, I see no reason for anyone to be concerned about the veteran outfielder's health. Werth took a 93 mph Mike Dunn fastball and demolished it out to left, a three-run shot that gave the Nats a 6-1 lead after seven innings. That homer was hit a good bit further than the one Werth sent out into the visitors' bullpen in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, and even that one was a rocket. This ball cut through a decent breeze and landed a few rows into the seats beyond the 'pen. After starting the season 0-for-8 with two strikeouts, Werth is 2-for-4 today and has broken this ballgame open. Everything has gone the Nationals' way this series, and that includes a perfect 1-2-3 seventh inning turned in by the inconsistent Henry Rodriguez. Rodriguez capped off his strong inning of work by striking out Giancarlo Stanton looking on a nasty curveball. Update: That's the ballgame. Tyler Clippard and Craig Stammen worked the eighth and ninth, respectively, and the Nats picked up a 6-1 win over the Marlins to finish off a three-game sweep. The Nats outscored Miami 11-1 in this incredibly lopsided series. Johnson's bunch now moves on to Cincinnati for what will likely be far more competitive games.
